Solemn Reformation Service

Published: October 31, 2024

Psalm 46 served as inspiration for our lecturer, Dr. David Kovačević, who yesterday, as part of the 2024 Reformation Day – Solemn Reformation Service, led the community gathered around God’s Word to reflect on how to act and where to find support and security when the “storm rages” around us and within us.

This psalm also inspired Martin Luther during the challenges he faced in the period of the Reformation. Dr. Kovačević emphasized that the psalm teaches us about the difference between false security, in which people often trust, and the true security we have in God. True security lies in the fact that when storms arise, we Christians have the true Helper: “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.”

Before the sermon, our librarian and deacon of the EPC, Matej Sakač, briefly spoke about the significance of the Reformation and also led us in worship: we sang this psalm, which was set to music by Luther in 1533!
