Jewish Culture Month – Memorial for Alfred Fischer

Published: September 25, 2024

As part of the Month of Jewish Culture, several events were held at our college.

Our head of the Institute for Christian Music, Judita Paljević Kraljik, participated in the ceremony of laying a Stolperstein for Alfred Fischer, an Osijek lawyer and intellectual. The event was attended by representatives of the Osijek City Council, the county, the Jewish Community of Osijek, the Center for the Promotion of Tolerance and Holocaust Remembrance, as well as Alfred Fischer’s son, Mr. Darko Fischer.

“This is a monument to my father, this is a monument to the other 2000 Jews of this city, this is a monument to the more than 20,000 Jews of Croatia, and it is also a monument to the 6 million Jews who perished in the Holocaust. I am proud that the City of Osijek embraced this initiative, that this Stolperstein was laid here in Osijek, so that passersby, when they stumble, may remember the great evil of the Holocaust and the countless innocent victims,” said Darko Fischer, the son of Alfred Fischer.
